U3A Port Alfred Presentation

May 2022

You are invited to the University of the Third Age (U3A) presentation in the Don Powis Hall, Settlers Park, at 16h00 for 16h30 on Thursday, 12th May 2022.

Heather Howard will be presenting "Nostalgia Unplugged: Sixty Years in the Kowie".

Heather Howard, who arrived here as a young bride in 1961 and never left, invites you to share her memories of six decades of life in the Kowie, starting from the days when everyone knew everyone else and a shopping trip down Main Street was a social occasion.  Her reminiscences will be illustrated with photographs.

Heather has been a cornerstone of the community of Port Alfred for over 60 years, having been mayoress, a long-time member of the Kowie Players, a columnist for the old Kowie Announcer newspaper and taking over tourism for the town. Heather has also played an active role in Rotary, the Lower Albany Historical Society, The Board of Trustees of the Kowie Museum and what must be Port Alfred’s oldest book club, The Reading Circle.

The U3A now has two presentations per month for most months in the year - the afternoon of the second Thursday and the morning of the fourth Thursday.
