World Coastal Clean-Up Day

21 September 2025

250920 world coastal cleanupAs an official Blue Flag Marina, Royal Alfred Marina supports the Blue Flag Environmental Awareness and Education Program and has registered with the Sustainable Seas Trust (SST) through their Operation Clean Spot campaign. This programme encourages communities and organisations to “adopt a spot,” carry out regular beach and waterway clean-ups, and record what they collect so scientists and conservationists can use the data.

We’ve adopted two special spots: East Beach and the Kowie River with our canals. Our team will collect the material removed by the dredging crews and by homeowners each week and submit that data to SST. At East Beach we’re working with local partners, including Ocean Bliss Café, to place dedicated recycling bins for collected litter.

Our first clean-up together with Multi Security took place on 20 September, World Coastal Clean-Up Day. The photos from that day show exactly why these actions matter: every piece of rubbish removed helps protect marine life, keeps our waterways healthy, and preserves the beauty of our coastline for residents and visitors alike.

This is an ongoing commitment. We’ll continue regular collection, record and share the data with SST, and post updates and photos on our social channels and here on the website. If you’d like to get involved, please let us know - every helping hand makes a difference.
