Marina Staff Caring for the East Pier
30 May 2026
The East and West Piers at the mouth of the Kowie River have been a familiar feature of Port Alfred's coastline for generations. Originally constructed as part of the harbour development that helped establish Port Alfred as a working port, the piers remain an integral part of the town's maritime heritage and coastal landscape.
Recently, Marina staff stepped in to help strengthen a section of the East Pier. They sourced rock from a local quarry and transported it to the pier with the generous support of local businesses, iHire and Build It. The project involved hours of demanding hands-on work by the Marina team, carrying, placing and positioning rock by hand.
This project reflects RAMHOA's commitment to investing in the wider Port Alfred community and supporting places that form part of our town's character, history and coastal identity.
Our thanks go to Gravin and his amazing team for the effort, dedication and teamwork that made this project possible. There is real satisfaction in knowing that we have helped preserve an iconic Port Alfred landmark, so enjoyed by local fishermen and many others.
