Local Talent, Global Waves
24 June 2026
Big dreams are built one wave at a time, and for Carl Wiersma, those dreams are taking him all the way to the international stage.
After his outstanding Under-16 victory at the Rip Curl GromSearch event at the Royal St Andrews Hotel earlier this year, Carl has earned not one, but two international call-ups.
In September, he will represent South Africa at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in El Salvador as part of the 2026 South African Junior Surfing Team. Then, in November, he'll take on some of the world's best young surfers at the Rip Curl GromSearch International Final.
The Royal Alfred Marina is delighted to support Carl on this exciting journey. Estate Manager Claire Wright recently wished him well as he prepares for the months ahead, and we'll be following his progress with great interest, sharing updates as he flies the South African flag on the world stage.
It's always a pleasure to see young local talent reaching new heights through hard work, commitment and passion. We wish Carl every success in the competitions ahead and look forward to cheering him on from home.
Good luck, Carl. We're all behind you!
